Human Body & Doshas (Vaata - Pitta - Cough)

As discussed in the previous blog, the three doshas (also known as Tridoshas) are fundamental principles related to the health (good or ill) of a human being. In this blog, the details of this very important principle is discussed. All the prominent ayurvedacharyas of ancient times including Charak, Sushruta, Vagbhata, Shrangdhara, Bhavamishra, Madhava etc have dealt with Tri-dosha/Tri-dosa and administration of the same for a good health and longevity.

Where are these found in human body?:

As mentioned in the verse 285 (Chapter XXVII) of Charaka Samhita, Vaata (Gas) is found in Pelvic region, i. e. between hip bones including bladder, rectum etc. and reproductive organs. Pitta (Acid) is found in cardiac region (the junction where oesophagus ends and stomach starts). The Cough (or Kapha) is situated in the head. Because of the proximity of the doshas to the specific organs, Charaka emphasises on eliminating them through emesis (vomit).

Why are human beings impacted differently?:

Charaka Samhita says that these doshas are present in different combinations in every individuals and they interact with the universe through air, environment, sun and moon differently which results in abnormal or normal health states. For example, an individual with Kapha character might feel normal in the bright sun while an individual with Pitta character may feel dizzy and ill in the same environment.

Do Doshas destroy each other?

No! Though, the three doshas are opposite in their properties but they don't destroy each other. Hence, the excess of one of the doshas if sustained for a long term will result in excess of other two doshas as well thereby making the human body even more abnormal and susceptible to diseases.

In the next blog we will dive even deeper about the impact of Tri-dosha on specific organs where they are situated: Pelvic region, Cardiac region and Head. Till then, try to identify any symptom related to these doshas you have been experiences since a few months and of course...stay tuned: www.anjupharma.com
